MADRASSA ZAHIR BARQUQ

Madrassa in accordance with the layout of mosques of the time, with a khanqah for 60 Sufis.
This madrasah (Koranic school) also has a khanqah (which can accommodate sixty Sufis). The complex was erected in 1386 by Sultan Zahir Barquq. In accordance with the mosques of the time, the main courtyard is decorated with a covered fountain in its centre and four iwans (prayer niches) on its four sides. One tomb contains the remains of the sultan's daughter, who is buried in another complex. The entrance is through a splendid bronze door and the stone minaret is of great finesse.
