BAB EL-BADISTAN
Still standing near the el-Hussein mosque, this gate features an arch decorated with fine stone carving.
In the middle of Khan el-Khalili, the el-Badistan gate, attributed to Sultan el-Ghouri, still stands, 2 steps from the el-Hussein mosque. Originally named Bab al-Ghouri, it was renamed Bab al-Badistan, Badistan meaning cotton in Turkish. Its arch is adorned with fine stone carvings. The lintel is decorated with geometric motifs in white and black marble, in the middle of which is the sponsor's coat of arms. A three-lobed arch crowns the whole with superb plant motifs. Three moucharabiehs conceal the windows. Viewed from the outside.
