GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY
Société de Géographie d'Égypte, located in the Egyptian Senate complex, for researchers and explorers
Located in the Egyptian Senate complex, the Geographical Society of Egypt was founded by Khedive Ismail, who inaugurated it in 1875. It was intended to host researchers and explorers, and major works have been published here since its inception. A small museum relating to the explorations was opened there, but unfortunately it perished in the flames during the fire of 2011. However, in 2013, the Geographical Society of Egypt was awarded a prize from the Institute of Letters and Manuscripts, enabling it to completely refurbish the building.
