PLACE EL-OPERA
The square features a magnificent bronze statue of Ibrahim Pacha with bronze bas-reliefs by Cordier on the pedestal.
"Midan al Opera" refers to the former opera house on this site, which was destroyed by fire in 1971. It was here that Rigoletto was performed for the inauguration of the Suez Canal. On the square stands a magnificent bronze statue of Ibrahim Pasha. This is both the work of Cordier, who created the figure, and Jacquemard, who designed the mount. On the pedestal, bronze bas-reliefs by Cordier complete the monument. The remains of the Ezbekieh Park are located behind this square.
