BAB EL-LOUK SOUK
Bab el-Louk Souk in Cairo's Bab el-Louk district, with covered market halls inspired by the old Halles in Paris.
The Bab el-Louk souk is located in the Bab el-Louk district of downtown. The souk has existed since time immemorial, and was plundered in 1494 during major riots. In 1600, the district was home to the city's tanneries. It benefited from the restructuring of Khedive Ismaïl in 1874 and the first tramway lines in the following years. These covered market halls were inspired by the old Halles de Paris. Vegetables, butchery, fresh fish, spices and drugstore: you'll find everything you need for the home. Sensitive noses please.
