MIT RAHINA MUSEUM
Open-air museum housing a magnificent sphinx, nearly 8 m long, and artifacts with relics from the New Kingdom.
The Mit Rahina open-air museum is a welcome diversion between Saqqara and Giza. It features a magnificent sphinx measuring almost 8 m in length, but it's above all the immense colossus of Ramses II that's worth a look. Carved from a very fine block of limestone, the complete statue (some of the legs are missing) measures 13m. You'll see it lying down. Most of the artifacts on display are relics from the New Kingdom. A visit to the museum takes around 45 minutes.
