Pyramid 100 m high and 200 m wide, representing the first successful attempt at a smooth-sided pyramid.
The Red Pyramid represents the first successful attempt at a smooth-sided pyramid. Attributed to Snefru of the 4th Dynasty, its name is inspired by the hue of its cladding. A staircase leads up to a height of 28 m, before entering a narrow gully, which is folded in half. The descent to the heart of the pyramid is impressive - claustrophobics beware! Once you've reached your destination, you'll find two high-ceilinged burial chambers. At 100 m high and 200 m wide, it is considered Egypt's first pyramid.
