Deir al-Surian (MONASTERY OF THE SYRIANS)
A pretty monastery surrounded by an inelegant modern enclosure, with moving Byzantine frescoes from the 12th and 13th centuries.
It is without doubt the prettiest of the four monasteries, although it is surrounded by a modern, inelegant enclosure. The Byzantine frescoes of the 12th and 13th centuries are particularly moving. You will also see many icons and a carved doorway. Above all, you will find yourself in the midst of the faithful for whom these places have great symbolic value. On leaving the church, go to the fortress (qasr). From the roof you have a beautiful view of the desert.
