PULA DOORS
The city of Pula has three historical gates, including the Hercules Gate, the Arch of Sergius or Golden Gate and the Twin Gates.
The gate of Hercules (Herkulova Vrata), a perfect triumphal arch (1st century BC), is the oldest. A head of Mars, god of war, bears the names of the two founding officers of the Istrian colony, Lucius Calpurnius Piso and Gaius Cassius Longinus. The Arch of Serge or Golden Gate (Slavoluk Sergijevaca) is a memorial building, built between 29 and 27 BC by Salvius Postumius Sergius, in honour of the three strong men in his family. The twin gates (Dvojna Vrata) provide access to the archaeological museum.
