ÉGLISE SAINT-THOMAS
Church with a bell tower in Rovinj keeping the shape of the cruciform plan typical of the Carolingian period.
Located on the north side of the peninsula, this church belongs to a group of local churches built during the High Middle Ages (late 8th-early 9th centuries). The floor plan of Saint Thomas is cruciform, typical of the Carolingian period. In the Middle Ages, a bell-tower was added, and during the Renaissance (16th century), major architectural works substantially altered the original structure. While the roof of the nave has disappeared, the roofing of the apse and the two chapels, all in flat stone, is remarkable.
