RUINES DE DVIGRAD
Ruins of the upper and lower "city" built on a hill near water and fertile land.
Only ruins of the upper and lower "city" remain. So what happened to Dvigrad? This town - which must have been beautiful given the elegance of its still standing walls - has been abandoned. Built on a hill near water and fertile land, it is mentioned as early as the 9th century. The Slavs occupied it for a while, then the Venetians settled there from 1413. At the end of the 15th century, the area was hit by plague and malaria, but it was the war between Venice and Austria that completely emptied the place (at the beginning of the 17th century).
