MUNICIPAL MUSEUM
Housed in the former Benčić industrial complex, this museum has become an important institution for culture and art in Rijeka.
The first Croatian Museum of Modern Art was founded in 1948, in the Governor's Palace. In 1956, it moved to the second floor of the University Library (Dolac Street). In 2017, it took over the former sugar refinery, the Benčić industrial complex, to become this large municipal museum. The permanent exhibition follows the palace's interior layout. Thirty exhibits spread over two floors offer visitors a glimpse of Rijeka from the 18th to the 21st century, in its historical, economic, political, cultural, educational, scientific and sporting dimensions.
