MIRABELA FORTRESS
A powerful stronghold that kept watch over the advancing Ottomans. Pirates then used it to attack Venetian ships.
The stronghold was built in the Middle Ages in order to monitor the progress of the Ottomans. But it was the former pirates of Omiš who really took advantage of it! Here they had a perfect view of the sea traffic, especially of the Venetian ships returning from the East loaded with precious materials. Pirates could see without being seen. When a galleon spawned on the coast, they jumped into their small fast boats to surround it. Then they attacked the crew with arrows and bravery, took control of the ship and seized the booty.
