DOMINICAN MONASTERY
Monastery with exhibition halls serving as a municipal museum and a library with objects and documents on the island.
Just outside town, on the seafront past the beach, this 15th-century monastery was built on the foundations of the churches of Saint-Jean-Baptiste (11th century) and Notre-Dame-de-la-Pitié (15th century). Its aerial view is very picturesque. It houses the famous Madonna by Tintoretto, as well as works by Croatian artists of the Baroque period, such as Tripo Kokolja. The exhibition rooms, which serve as the municipal museum, include a fine collection of Dalmatian jewelry and the library, which houses manuscripts and documents relating to the island's history.
