ERMITAGE DU DÉSERT BLANC
This hermitage, founded in the century by Glagolitic monks, is of great importance to Croatia's religious heritage.
Founded by Glagolitic monks in the mid-16th century, the hermitage, a symbol of resistance to the invaders, is of great importance to Croatia's religious heritage. The community, which had fled the Ottoman occupation (1550), hid in a cave on the island. They then built a troglodytic shelter and this large monastery, with an active brotherhood until 1963, when the last monk died. The monastery was transformed into a museum. Visit the church, library and astronomical observatory. From Bol, excursion every Wednesday.
