I arrived at Mali Mrak hostel to stay 3 nights and I ended up staying there a whole week! Igor is super welcoming and gave me so many tips to discover some hidden gems in and around Zagreb, besides the usual touristic stuff! The hostel is well connected with the city center (and the bus and train stations) with trams which are very efficient!!
The house is very nicely decorated and cozy, with a garden and an outside kitchen to enjoy during the good days! So, I will definitely come back when passing by Zagreb and I highly recommend this hostel to anyone who wants to feel home far from home while staying off of the beaten track ????

Home away from home. This quirky little hostel is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

I had a good time at Mali Mrak. Located in a residential area, you can reach the city center by tram in 15 minutes. The host was very welcoming and helpful at any time. If he wasn’t in the hostel, you could texted him and he replied quickly. The hostel has a decent kitchen and supermarkets in walking distance.

This is absolutely the best hostel I've ever stayed in! It can be a bit difficult to locate since it's on a smaller back street. However take tram six, use Google maps, and you can find it easily. As soon as you walk on the property, you notice the calm and welcoming atmosphere. The outdoor kitchen has a canopy of grapevines. If you are lucky enough to visit when they're ripe, they're delicious! Igor and all the other hostile workers are genuinely friendly and invested in helping you have a good time while you're in Zagreb. There's a five page document that they've prepared with suggestions for food and drink as well as local activities. We went down the street to a local grocery store to get what we needed for dinner etc. Everyone was just hanging out in the kitchen area, eating, chatting, or just scrolling on their phone while enjoying the cool breeze. We shared food with other travelers, played some card games, and had wonderful conversations with people from around the world. If you're looking for a party hostel, keep scrolling. If you're looking for a hostel that makes you feel like you're at home, Mali Mrak is the place for you. Honestly, the only thing we did was go to a park to see some abandoned world war II bunkers and have a nice picnic by a pond with small fish and a few turtles. We have been traveling for 40 days now and this was just what we needed to recharge our batteries and get us ready to go out and explore. Thanks guys! ????

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. Igor is so kind and the atmosphere is very zen. Don't come expecting a party, come expecting to sit back and enjoy good company.

Mali Mrak feels like my home in Zagreb. It is a really good place for connecting with people. I loved the beautiful art and cooking and sharing food in the kitchen/ common area.
Igor, Petra and Filip are always ready to help you find the good places in the city and are very good company.
Will come back for sure if I’m in Zagreb! Ciao, Vinko

Easily the best hostel I've been to. All in all it's a relaxed place where you really feel comfortable and at home.
It was very social but not intense and there were plenty of quiet spaces for people to go.
Rules and expectations were considerate, clearly explained and followed by all guests. Igor was kind and welcoming and it felt like staying in a small community.
Location was perfect - quiet residential, local area, not too far into town by tram but it was a ways if you want to walk. Big supermarket round the corner.
Amenities - clean, and pretty standard. Brathroom was spotless, Kitchen was outdoors and always kept super clean.
10/10 - look forward to coming back

This hostel is just ok for very short stays. The hostel is around 20 mins (walk+tram) from the center. The place has all this eclectic, artistic vibe going on, however, it felt dark and heavy for me. Around the hostel there are several boards from the owner with lots of rules and sarcastic comments, that at least from my side seemed quite unnecessary and unfriendly. The beds were quite uncomfortable and made lots of sound any time you moved. The bathrooms were also quite small, not what I would imagine for a hostel for so many people. I'm quite surprised by all the great reviews it has, I think the owner has the feeling that his hostel is great without have ever been in another one.

We had a lovely time at Mali Mrak. The hostel is clean and has a cool decoration. The vibe is chill, as its owner Igor. We felt at home, met nice people and even enjoyed a bbq. It sure is a great spot to stay and the location is also great to visit the city.

Great little hostel. Chilled out vibe and away from the hustle of the city centre. Philip and Igor were super friendly and eager to help. Its not a huge place but didnt feel cramped at all. Will definitely be returning.

The owner is amazing and the place feels like home. It is a bit remote from the city center but it isn't that impactful since there is a tram station at 8 minutes by walk. I would totally recommend that hostel to anybody going to Zagreb! :)

I love this hostel, it feels like home. It’s cosy & comfortable, clean & in a great location - close to the tram station, grocery stores etc. Theres always someone new & interesting to meet here, & Igor is awesome - very helpful & knowledgeable of the best places to adventure/explore, & goes above & beyond for guests. The decor is divine, love the overall creative atmosphere. The beds are super comfy & the outside kitchen/garden is adorable. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. A great gem of a place to unwind, chill-out & feel-good. Can’t wait to come back!

The best thing about this hostel apart from the eye candy everywhere, is the evolved and sentient kind of people it attracts with lots of good conversations to be had. You also will not hv to suffer from bad or uncivilized, inconsiderate behaviour of lout guests like many hostels because Igor would kick them out first!
A well-run, peaceful sanctuary a little bit out of the centre, suitable for the nomad, the longer traveller, the more discerning traveller, the artist, the intellectual, the poet, the musician...When I visited it was rainy, wet and cold and actually temporarily closed/under renovation so I didn't get the normal five star experience this place is famously known for. Sleep-ability wld hv been awesome except the bunk bed was really uncomfy for me, hence for my specific stay, just 3 stars rating. I am sure it is usually a 4 or 5 though. Glad I got to check out this Zag institution...finally!

Stayed here for one night and it was one of the best experiences I had in an hostel so far. I'm glad that places like this exist and I couldn't be happier with the room, bathroom, environment and even the puppies :) Will definitely come here again.

This hostel has a really beautiful energy to it from the moment you walk in. The bedrooms are covered in 'love-letters' to the hostel, from previous travellers, and you instantly know you are in a good place. The facilities are spotless and Igor was an excellent host - going out of his way to give fantastic recommendations and answer all questions.
Though it was March when I stayed and the hostel was quite empty, everyone I met was so pleasant and it's definitely very easy to make friends at the hostel. It seemed like a great choice for solo travellers especially. Lots of really cosy common areas to hang out in and socialise. Furthermore, while hostel stays tend to tire me out a bit. here I not only slept very well but felt like I was staying at friends, rather than a booked stay.
Finally, I would not worry about the location being farther out than some other hostels. Connections into the city are really good and frequent (just one tram or bus to the center, without needing to change). If anything it adds to the feeling that you are staying at a home and not a hostel.
