We booked a cooking class through FindinGreece. We were going to be on Amorgos for five nights and I rang on Day 2 to see if there were any classes available while we were there. Semeli was very helpful and welcoming, and got back to us quickly after checking availability with their partner (in our case, Vigla Hotel in Tholaria).
We had a wonderful afternoon learning how to cook moussaka and tzatziki with mama Irini and with a great welcome/service from her daughter, Poppy. Although on the way I'd said to my partner that I hoped we wouldn't be making moussaka (under the guise of "anyone can make a lasagne"), I was so pleased that we did...we learned SO many fantastic tips, and it was the tastiest moussaka OR lasagne I've probably ever eaten. Irini is a great teacher with firm preferences and explains why she does things a certain way. We also learnt that the dishes that they make in each class can vary depending on personal preferences (e.g. vegetarian) and that they also offer baking classes.
One small note: we were told the meeting point was the carpark in Tholaria (but not told the name of the cooking location), so thought we would be greeted there. When noone greeted us at the carpark we made contact with Semeli and were quickly redirected to the hotel, which was next door.
Thank you for a fabulous experience. We will definitely be making both dishes back home!
Semeli provided our family with an evening food tour. We had a wonderful time. Semeli was a fountain of knowledge and had an obvious passion for life on Amorgos and in Greece. Highly recommended!
