KASSIOPI CASTLE
Castle of the Byzantine period dominating the port of Kassiopi, among those defending Corfu.
Kassiopi Castle, overlooking the small port, was built in the 1st century AD. The edifice has survived the ages and remains well preserved. It is one of three Byzantine castles that defended Corfu before the Venetian era. At that time, its role was mainly strategic, defending the north-east of the island, while Gardiki castle defended the south and Angelokastro the north-west. The castle is reached via a narrow path that runs behind the village of Kassiopi. Nice view of the surrounding area.
