MUSEUM OF COMMUNISM (MUZEUM KOMUNISMU)
A superb museum dedicated to this dark page of Czech history. Captivating and scary! A historical and educational dive.
The museum is a unique experience in understanding the Communist regime and how this period of history shaped every aspect of daily life in the former Eastern bloc, as well as its influence on millions of human lives across generations. In its new, brighter and more spacious premises, the Museum of Communism succeeds in conveying this message by building on and enriching what had made it so successful. The first section features a few artifacts and photos, but is essentially devoted to presenting the history of Communism in the Czech Republic from the Russian Revolution to the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Large panels retrace the great hours of the Party and its emblematic figures. A lot of reading, but it's fascinating and very well documented. In the second part of the exhibition, we move on to the staging, which recreates the atmosphere of the period, and includes numerous objects from that time. A large section is devoted to the repressive system, with the reconstitution of an interrogation room or an area, plunged into semi-darkness, where we relive the hell of those who tried to cross to the West. The exhibition as a whole has become richer and more interactive than ever before, with numerous films and recordings making the reconstructions less static. A historical and educational plunge into the years of communism and their repercussions in Czechoslovakia.
