Built in the Art Nouveau style, Tunis' municipal theater is often nicknamed "la bonbonnière" for its shape. French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Belloc created the façade's masterpiece, a high relief depicting Apollo surrounded by the Muses of Poetry and Drama. Inaugurated in November 1902, it was then known as the Casino Municipal de Tunis. The Théâtre Municipal de Tunis is a major national and international stage.
