GOVERNORSHIP MONASTERY
Monastery with museum between the rocks bordering the sea producing olive oil.
A few kilometres north of Agia Triada stands this other monastery, wedged between the rocks by the sea. Originally built in the 11th century, additions were made in the 16th century. Gouverneto, destroyed in a fire (1765), was rebuilt and destroyed again in 1821 by the Ottomans who massacred all the monks. Since then, the building has been restored. A small museum retraces the history of this place and the works that have been stored there. It is an olive oil production site. The road that leads to the monastery allows a nice walk.
