CHURCH SOTIRAS CHRISTOS
Ancient chapel dedicated to the Transfiguration of Christ containing frescoes by painters.
Meskla is a green village, 21 kilometres southwest of Hania, where you can visit the old chapel dedicated to the Transformation of Christ. Don't miss the frescoes painted in 1303 by Theodoros Daniel and Michael Veneris, quite damaged by time but still a magnificent testimony of Byzantine art. Every year, on August 14th, a big feast dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin, the second church of the village, is held in the square: it is the occasion to visit the small chapel and to participate in a very successful traditional feast.
