The Great Gate of Rethymnon, a historical site built between 1540 and 1580.

The Great Gate (Porta Guora), marked the main entrance to the Venetian city. It was built between 1540 and 1580, according to the orders of the governor of the time, Jacopo Guoro. It was opened at dawn and closed at night to protect the city. It was made of wood with a metal surface and was 6 meters high and 3.1 meters wide. In 1670, a mosque dedicated to the Valid Sultana, the mother of Sultan Ibrahim, was built next to it.
