LOGGIA
Superb building sheltering a store which proposes copies of archaeological treasures.
This superb building was built in the mid-16th century by the Venetian occupants. The nobles of Rethymno met there to discuss the public and economic affairs of the city and thus ensure their control over the region. During the Ottoman period, the loggia was transformed into a mosque and topped with a minaret. At the beginning of the 20th century, it served for several years as a building for the Archaeological Museum, which has since been transferred elsewhere. Today the loggia houses a shop selling copies of archaeological treasures.
