ARMENI NECROPOLIS
The great necropolis of Armeni consists of 280 tombs dug in the rock.
This large necropolis dating from the Minoan post-Palatial period (1400 BC) is composed of 280 tombs dug into the rock, of all sizes, some of which are immense and can be visited. The most impressive is tomb No. 200, tholos or circular tomb, which is accessed by a stairway almost 5 m long. The most beautiful pieces of offerings excavated from these funerary monuments that housed members of the same family are on display at the Archaeological Museum of Rethymnon, but seeing the site as a whole and in its environment is worth the trip. So notice to lovers of archaeological sites.
