PANAGIA I KAMARIANI
A pretty little Orthodox church located on the edge of a rocky beach.
A pretty little Orthodox church, dedicated to the Virgin, surrounded by tamarisk trees, on the edge of a rocky and turbulent beach. The attribute "Kamariani" given to this church evokes a long history concerning a Byzantine icon representing the Virgin and Child. The original icon, also named Virgin Kamariani, was discovered in the 19th century in Bousbouroum, a village in Asia Minor located opposite the island of Symi, in the Dodecanese archipelago. This authentic icon is currently in Alikarnassos, in the Heraklion region.
