The Museum of Cretan Ethnology is particularly rich in items related to agriculture, animal husbandry, pottery, basketry, speleology, architecture, music and dance. It was an important research center in the 1980s for the study of the civilizations of Crete from the year 1000 to the present. It contains excavated objects from all over Crete, from the Minoan (2000 to 500 BC), Archaic, Byzantine and Ottoman periods.
