Shops are usually open every day from 9am to 6pm. Some only open at noon on Mondays. Shopping night is Thursday evening until 9pm.

Budget & Tips

In general, prices are on a par with those in France. Amsterdam is a city where second-hand clothing is king, and we recommend visiting the many second-hand shops. The Noordermarkt market, which celebrates fripe on Mondays, is a must. As the main event is St. Nicholas' Day on December 5, bargain prices are often applied the very next day, which is a great bargain for Christmas shopping!

Sales

In Amsterdam, there are sales all year round or almost all year round, special offers, low prices, etc. Black Friday is also becoming more and more widespread here.

What's very local

Typical gifts have the advantage of being really usable. Nothing better to work in the fields and in your garden than real clogs! On the Singel flower market, you will find bulbs and onions. Another nice memory: the hoof or tulip magnets that are sold everywhere. Delft's facade is inevitable but expensive. Among the country’s gastronomic specialities are chocolates (and chocolate chips to put on toast, hagelslag), cheeses, especially edam and gouda. For football fans, Ajax offers a wide range of articles.

Tourist traps

All shops dedicated solely to souvenirs celebrate plastic and made in China more often than the Dutch authenticity. It is better to avoid them and visit the Centraal Station tourist office, which has a superb shop selling typical local objects.
