Praça dom pedro IV, also known as Rossio Square, is one of Lisbon's oldest and most admirable squares. Located in the Baixa Chiado district, this emblematic square is one of the city's must-see landmarks. It has a rich history, having been the scene of important events in Portuguese history, such as markets, fairs, executions and even the Carnation Revolution in 1974. The square is dominated by a huge bronze statue of King Peter IV of Portugal, surrounded by fountains of French architectural influence. Around the square, you'll find remarkable buildings such as the Théâtre National D. Maria II National Theatre and Café Nicola, one of Lisbon's oldest cafés. From Praça dom pedro IV, it's easy to walk to other Lisbon landmarks, such as Rossio Station, Avenida da Liberdade and the Place du Commerce. To get there, simply take the metro (green line) to the Rossio stop.
