HÔTEL DO CHIADO * * * *
Design hotel with a small terrace that offers all the qualities of comfort and service expected of a 4-star hotel.
Designed by the great Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza Vieira, the 4-star establishment blends oriental, classic and contemporary styles. In addition, it has only 40 rooms, which facilitates a more personalized welcome than in large complexes. Although its bet to be among the design hotels has only been partially won, the house with its small terrace has all the qualities of comfort and service expected from a hotel of this rank. The Entretanto Rooftop bar, located on the 7th floor, is known to have the best view of Lisbon.

My suspicion is that, because the week we stayed there was unusually warm for February, the hotel simply hadn't turned on the compressors yet, so it was impossible to get conditioned air. If it were any other hotel, I would definitely deduct a star (at least), but the truth is, AC aside, everything else was absolutely perfect. Hotel do Chiado is a beautiful hotel, well maintained, and staffed by super kind and courteous people. Everyone at the front desk, as well as breakfast and room service were all super pleasant and attentive. Beds were large and comfortable and the rooms were spacious. Location is awesome, with primo shopping, museums, and lots of excellent restaurants within short walking distance (as long as you don't mind the hills). There is a metro station pretty much in the basement of the hotel.
All in all, we had a fabulous time in Lisbon and will definitely return some day. And yes, I would absolutely stay at Hotel do Chiado again, although I might ask in advance if the AC is working!
