ADEGA MACHADO
It belongs to Fado & Food Group, as Café Luso and Timpanas. Restored in 2012, the establishment presents a bright facade covered with tiles beautified by golden yellow colours with paintings around the theme of Fado. The decoration of its elegant spacious dining room is the witness that this property of Fado is historic. Anecdotally, the idea to open this house to sing the Fado emerged at Fernando Freitas Silvestre at the top of the Eiffel Tower in 1937 during a trip in Paris. Since then, the house was managed by Armando Machado, a songwriter and guitarist, handed over to his family during three generations, and most popular artists came here. Next to the dining room, there's a spot that can accommodate people and which is devoted to the history of this institution. You have the opportunity to witness the beauty of about twenty Amália's photographs. Nowadays, it is known as a top-of-the-range place where you have an occasion to meet local celebrities. Romantic lighting atmosphere make it a special marvel and beautiful effects perfectly suitable for a romantic dinner while enjoying a fascinating and wonderfully interesting Fado show. Their cuisine presents a compromise between traditional products and modern preparation which make it an exquisite refinement. The fadists, performed exclusively here, are generally nice; there are many promising young talents or famous names. In summer, there's a terrace in the open air, on the first floor, allowing you to have the opportunity to dine in the marvel of the typical atmosphere on Bairro Alto, this place is also dedicated to the smokers.
“Fado inside the box”. Every day at 17:00 pm, you can attend a fado show for an hour while enjoying delicious tapas prepared by the Chef and accompanied by a Portuguese wine. It is a good thing to listen to fado without spending lots of money, or if you simply cannot go out in the evening because you are on holiday with your children who do no like attending and listening to fado performance…
