MESA DA FRADES
What can we say about this fado house... except that it can sometimes be a truly magical place to spend an evening. What remains of the refurbished 18th-century chapel are the magnificent azulejos on the walls and a certain sacredness. The acoustics are sublime, and everyone holds their breath over a glass of port. So as not to break the spell or interrupt the artists, the doors are closed between each session. You'll have to wait a few minutes for the door to open if you arrive in the middle. The musicians playing here are resident and talented.
