CEMITÉRIO DOS INGLÊSES (ENGLISH CEMETERY)
Cemetery with cypresses in front of Estrela Gardens housing the grave of novelist Henry Fielding.
Opposite the Estrela Gardens, this cemetery, founded in 1717, watches over its illustrious (or not) English expatriates in peace and "in the cool". It is probably one of the most romantic green spaces in the Portuguese capital (and certainly one of the most secret!). Its cypress trees shelter the remains of Lisbon's old Jewish cemetery and the tomb of the novelist Henry Fielding (author of Tom Jones) who died in Lisbon in 1754, during a health visit!
