IGREJA/MUSEU DE SÃO ROQUE
Church part of a complex housing a chapel with a collection of oriental art that really deserves a visit.
Built at the end of the 16th century, the church of São Roque belonged to the Society of Jesus. It is part of a complex-museum that includes the São Roque Hermitage, the São João Batista Chapel, the Oriental Art Collection of the Society of Jesus and the Santa Casa de Misericordia. The São Baptista Chapel is really worth a visit. Commissioned by D. João V and designed in Rome between 1742 and 1747, it was transported by ship to Lisbon, where it was reassembled from scratch.
