CONVENTO DOS CARDAIS
A magnificent convent which at the time, and still today, takes in young blind and handicapped girls.
A magnificent convent, particularly interesting for its intact architecture and decoration, unlike all the other religious buildings that were expropriated and looted, or even abandoned in the 19th century when the congregations were expelled. The good state of preservation of this establishment, founded in 1681 and occupied by Dominican nuns, can be explained by the fact that at the time (and still today) they took in blind and disabled girls: these good deeds probably saved the convent from looting.

The visit is guided by volunteers passionate, which allows you to have many details on the history of Portugal, the artistic techniques, daily life in Lisbon. The azulejos are numerous and very old, the convent not having been too damage by the earthquake.
Unmissable. For 4€ one has some frankly for its money. Given the quality of the visit, that is even a small extra souvenir! (not by the sisters, but surely welcome!)
