IGREJA DA GRAÇA
Ancient church of Portuguese Baroque religious art with surprising effects of sculptures and trompe l'oeil.
Take a look at one of the city's oldest churches, which dates back to 1271. It was dedicated to a statue of the Virgin miraculously recovered off Cascais (Portugal, a land of miracles...). Before our eyes a summary of Portuguese Baroque religious art, golden woods, beautiful azulejos from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, surprising sculptural and trompe-l'oeil effects. However, it was damaged, as was the convent, during the 1755 earthquake, and was therefore rebuilt.
