ELEVADOR DE SANTA JUSTA (ELEVATOR OF SANTA JUSTA)
Elevator-funicular with wrought iron shell, enjoying a nice perspective on Santa Justa street.
Inaugurated in 1902, the Elevador de Santa Justa links Rua do Ouro to Largo do Carmo, facilitating access between Baixa and Bairro Alto. At the time, it was considered one of the most modern elevators of its time. Designed by Portuguese engineer Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, its metal structure is reminiscent of our beloved Eiffel Tower. There is often a long queue to get up there, so arm yourself with patience.
