The longest cable-stayed bridge in Europe withstands the 4.5 times more powerful earthquake and winds up to 250 km/h.

This cable-stayed bridge, the longest in Europe after the Crimean one, was built taking into account the curvature of the Earth and can withstand an earthquake 4.5 times stronger than the 1755 earthquake and winds of up to 250 km/h. Inaugurated just before the 1998 Universal Exhibition, after three years of work, it crosses the Tagus d'Oriente to the south and the municipalities of Montijo and Alcochete. Conceived by the French engineer Jean Vassord, this highway viaduct appears endless, 17,185 m long, including nearly 13,000 m above the Tagus.

Venir à Lisbonne sans passer sur le pont Vasco de Gama serait dommage. LA traversée est des plus agréables, la structure du pont est impressionnante tout comme la superbe vue qu'il offre sur le fleuve et la ville!!!
