MUSEU MAÇÓNICO PORTUGUÊS
Small museum ideal to discover the role of Freemasonry in Portugal with a law prohibiting secret societies.
The Grand Orient Lusitanien was founded in 1802 after four centuries of Masonic tradition in Portugal. It is also one of the oldest independent obediences in Europe. Freemasonry was severely repressed during the Salazar dictatorship with a law banning secret societies. In its small museum, you can discover the role of Freemasonry in Portugal as a counter-power to the Church or Marxism. Through this exhibition, it is also a testimony of the European history for more than 200 years.
