MUSEU DO CENTRO CIENTIFICO E CULTURAL DE MACAU
Luxurious museum on 2 levels housing a collection of Chinese art from the Iberian Peninsula and exceptional pieces of art.
On the way to Belém, you should not miss this luxurious museum, on two levels, which is an essential complement to the visit of the museum of the fundação Oriente. It is a creation of the Scientific and Cultural Center of Macau, an institution with a substantial documentary fund, whose vocation is the study and dissemination of the history and culture of the society of Macau, a former Portuguese possession (since 1557) that was handed over to China at the end of 1999. The museum has one of the largest collections of Chinese art in the Iberian Peninsula. The design of the museum is not only original but also at the cutting edge of technology (interactive sound and video illustrations, virtual prowess...). The meticulous reconstructions, the exceptional pieces of art (porcelain, ivory, magnificent samurai boxes in carved mother-of-pearl...) and the beautiful maps and plans, everything is displayed with meticulous know-how under an intimate lighting of the most exotic. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are temporary exhibitions organized highlighting Chinese artists who have a connection with Portugal. The latest was of painter Yanbei Zhang who moved to Portugal in 2014. The most interesting part of the experience is realizing how the two worlds, Western and Asian, met: the Portuguese went so far as to decorate the streets of Macau with the iconic small cobblestones. Incredible!
