Built in the 19th century as an extension of the Jerónimos, on the site from which Vasco de Gama set sail in 1497, this is the perfect place for model makers! A fine collection of documents: maps, sextants and miniature ships from the time of the discoveries to the present day. Not forgetting the English-style private cabin, in perfect condition, of King Dom Carlos and Queen Dona Amélia, on the yacht Amélia, dismantled in 1938. A museum that preserves in time the epic of the Portuguese on the oceans.

Owner's Message
In 1863, King Luís founded a museum in honor of the navy, which has been in operation for over a century
for over 60 years in the Jerónimos monastery. After all, it's very close to this place
that, in the 15th century, three Portuguese princes set sail on the waters of the Tagus (river) to
to conquer "beyond the sea".
From the great adventure of the discoveries to the evolution of merchant shipping and
is the motto of the permanent exhibition at the Maritime Museum, which has
an impressive collection of over 23,000 items.
