RESERVATÓRIO DA PATRIARCAL - MUSEU DA ÁGUA
Water reservoir in the basement of the França Borges garden with 31 pillars of 9.25 m high and 410 tunnels lined with channels.
Located beneath Lisbon's Príncipe Real Gardens, this water reservoir, completed in 1864 and designed by French engineer Louis-Charles Mary, was an integral part of the city's water supply system. With its 31 9.25 m-high pillars, it's something of an underground water cathedral! The Galeria do Loreto, with its 410 m of tunnels lined with stone canals to carry water to the fountains, leads to the light of the mirador of São Pedro de Alcântara.
