RESERVATÓRIO DA PATRIARCAL - MUSEU DA ÁGUA
Water reservoir in the basement of the França Borges garden with 31 pillars of 9.25 m high and 410 tunnels lined with channels.
Situated in the basement of the França Borges garden, it is a little marvel of a water reservoir, built by the water company between 1860 and 1864, thanks to the plans of the French architect Michel Mary. With its 31 pillars 9.25 m high, it is a bit like an underground cathedral at the service of water. The Galeria do Loreto, with its 410 m of tunnels lined with stone canals to carry the water to the fountains, leads to the light of the viewpoint of São Pedro de Alcântara.
