Museum of the Royal Treasure with more than 1,000 royal pieces as well as collections of gold jewelry and precious stones.
Relatively new to Lisbon, this impressive museum, inaugurated in 2022 in the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, houses a unique collection of royal treasures and historical objects that trace the history of the Portuguese monarchy and its riches. The museum is housed in a new wing of the palace, which is virtually a 1,000-square-meter vault... The collection includes scepters, crowns and medals, as well as gold coins minted during the Portuguese maritime discoveries, and thousands of pieces of jewelry that belonged to Portuguese royalty over nine centuries. Among the most emblematic pieces is the Bragança Diamond, a priceless gemstone that is one of the symbols of the ancient wealth of the Portuguese crown. You can also admire a collection of silverware that will delight goldsmiths and silversmiths, and a number of religious art objects. The scenography of the Museu do Tesouro Real has been designed to offer an immersive experience, with a play of light designed to highlight the exhibits, leaving visitors in relative obscurity. The exhibition is divided into several thematic and chronological sections, allowing visitors to follow a visual narrative of the history of the Portuguese monarchy and its treasures. Each section is dedicated to a particular aspect, such as crown jewels, ceremonial objects or the treasures of maritime discoveries... You'll be amazed.
