JARDIM DA ESTRELA
A beautiful, romantic English garden opposite the Basilica da Estrela, where you can enjoy a peaceful, cool stroll.
A beautiful, romantic English garden opposite the Basilica da Estrela, designed and planted in 1842, with exotic trees, undulating lawns and colorful flowerbeds. It is dotted with statues, small lakes and strolling kiosks. In spring, the purple blossoms of the jacarandas litter the paths, and ducks stroll quietly by. Don't miss the impressive cactus and prickly pear clump that runs along one side of the park. The garden plays an important role in the social and cultural life of the neighborhood, providing a green space for leisure activities, picnics and community events. Loved by Lisboans, it is much frequented, especially after work or at weekends. Its lush vegetation makes it a particularly pleasant spot in summer, providing shelter from the scorching Lisbon sun and a relative coolness. If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of a few green parakeets flitting about in the wild, which are sure to make themselves heard. In summer, many events take place, such as open-air cinema screenings or concerts in the old bandstand dating back to 1884, yoga classes and even local craft markets from time to time! If you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet, we'd advise you to visit during the week, as it's usually very busy on Sundays, and can sometimes feel a bit cramped. Not to be missed!
