JARDIM DA ESTRELA
A beautiful English garden where it is nice to rest on the grass or have a coffee at the kiosk while watching people.
A beautiful, romantic English garden, opposite the Basilica da Estrela, designed in 1842, with exotic trees, undulating lawns and colorful flowerbeds. It's dotted with statues, small lakes and strolling kiosks. In spring, the purple blossoms of the jacarandas litter the paths, and ducks stroll quietly by. Don't miss the impressive cactus and prickly pear clump that runs along one side of the park. The garden plays an important role in the social and cultural life of the neighborhood, providing a green space for leisure activities, picnics and community events. Loved by Lisboans, it is much frequented, especially after work or at weekends. Its lush vegetation makes it a particularly pleasant spot in summer, providing shelter from the scorching Lisbon sun and a relative coolness. If you're lucky, you may even spot a few green parakeets flying free and making themselves heard. In summer, many events take place here, including open-air cinema screenings, concerts in the old bandstand dating from 1884, yoga classes and local craft markets! If you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet, we'd advise you to visit during the week, as it's usually very busy on Sundays, and a little cramped for space.
