MONSANTO FLORESTAL PARK
A real green lung just a stone's throw from the centre of Lisbon with walking trails and a playground for children.
Long abandoned only to prostitution and drug addicts, what a wonderful metamorphosis this gigantic green lung in the capital has undergone! Little by little, life has returned to the area, with sports fields, a horse-riding center and activity parks (notably the Espaço Monsanto with its children's activities), an open-air auditorium (the Anfiteatro Keil do Amaral with a program of free concerts in summer). In 2017, Monsanto's former panoramic restaurant was transformed into a viewpoint after three months' work. Since 2018, a famous gallery promoting urban artists has set up its HQ here for their annual festival (Iminente). So don't be surprised to see some spectacular frescoes.
For children: a play area with educational games (car circuit, mazes). Bonus: a picnic and restaurant area. Within this vast forest, you'll find several parks.
Parque do Alvito. Parque de Monsanto. More than half a century of loyal service to children: swimming pools, cultural center for young people (with workshops in drawing, painting and pottery), restaurant and play area (ship, wooden train).
Parque Recreativo do Alto da Serafina - Parque dos Índios. This park offers outdoor activities (hiking in the ecological park, climbing, obstacle course) and themed workshops (modeling clay, painting), subject to reservation.
