WATCHTOWER OF SANTA LUZIA
Miradouro at the foot of a beautiful church with a lovely Moorish garden and a view over the roofs of the Alfama.
At the foot of a pretty church, a delightful Moorish garden on two levels, built on the remains of the old wall. It offers a bird's-eye view of the Alfama rooftops. The promontory is covered with an arbour of Virginia creeper, and in the background, on a wall, a profusion of mauve bougainvillea. In the distance, two faded-white churches and the Tagus River... Boats waiting or moored at the quays. It's a real balcony overlooking the Alfama and the Sea of Straw, and always a well-deserved stopover. If you feel like it, head down the steps into the Alfama.
