PRAÇA DOM PEDRO IV
Large square in Lisbon with some emblematic cafes and a statue of Dom Pedro IV in the center.
This large square is the lung of the city where one comes to mix in the uninterrupted hubbub of traffic. The one that once hosted many popular celebrations (bullfights, markets or public executions) has some emblematic cafés. In the centre, the statue is supposed to be that of Dom Pedro IV, emperor of Brazil whose red hair is said to have given his name to the place. In reality, it was Maximilian of Habsburg, Emperor of Mexico, who stayed in Lisbon after the assassination of his sponsor.
