CAFÉ SAUDADE
It's an institution in Sintra! Enjoy a coffee or hot chocolate in a historic setting that was once a queijadas factory.
Once a queijadas factory founded by Mathilde Soares Ribeiro from 1888 to 1974, this bourgeois house was restored to become a pretty café, run by Chalet Saudade, a guesthouse just a stone's throw away. It has several small rooms where you can admire the old machines used at the beginning of its history. Among the specialities, a hot chocolate to die for. The menu also includes savoury dishes, such as tostas made from large slices of farmhouse bread. An institution in the town of Sintra, it's almost a must.
