PARK AND PALACE OF MONSERRAT
Large English park and castle in romantic style, with fountains and lawns under the protective shade of vegetation.
Need some peace and quiet after the popular Sunday rush at the Palacio da Pena? Need to dream? This large English park, dominated by a strange romantic-style castle, inspired, in particular, by some palaces in northern India, offers fountains and lawns under the protective shade of Sintra's particular vegetation, mixing tropical and European species. A change of scenery guaranteed! As soon as you enter, you will plunge into a dense vegetation that will lead you to the ruins of a chapel invaded by the jungle. It is like being in a Tarzan or Planet of the Apes movie. You will then cross different gardens such as the Mexican-inspired one with its aloe and cactus, or the superb rose garden (more impressive in spring than in winter, of course). After this nature bath, and a short climb, you will arrive at the palace, worthy of the tales of the Thousand and One Nights. This is the moment to deceive your relatives and say that you went to Rajasthan, they will believe you without any problem! Built in 1858 by the architect Richard Knowles for Francis Cook, Viscount of Monserrate, the palace integrates Gothic and Renaissance styles while borrowing oriental ornaments. Inside, there is not much to see because the rooms are empty. However, one can admire this magnificent ornamented corridor and the carved wooden door of one of the rooms. The advantage of this palace is that it is much less frequented by tourists who usually do not go there.

Il est beaucoup moins fréquenté que d'autres sites présents à Sintra mais il en vaut clairement le détour.
