FORTALEZA DE SÃO FILIPE
Castle, classified as a national monument and transformed into a pousada, housing a chapel with a collection of tiles from the eighteenth century.
Built in 1590 by Filipe I, the Fort de São Filipe is a historic fortress that was classified as a national monument in 1933 and converted into a pousada in the 1960s. Perched on a hill overlooking Setúbal and the Sado estuary, its role was to defend the town and the coastline. Today, it offers exceptional panoramic views of the surrounding region. It boasts a pretty chapel and a fine collection of 18th-century azulejos depicting the life of São Filipe. A plunge into Portuguese military history.
